The Vohlands were racing week in and week out honing their
skills and winning some regional Championships.
1984
Tyson made his
mark by unexpectedly winning the youth class at Loretta Lynn’s amateur
nationals.
1985
Tyson came to
Ponca City and Loretta Lynn’s with one
thing in mind, winning championships. By the end of the two week tour,
Tyson had won 12 out of 18 professional motos. Three of his titles from the then highly prestigious Ponca City races
plus one from Loretta lynns.
1986
With the results acheived, Tyson
received a semi-factory ride. Tyson enbarked on his professional career. Tyson's very first race was Anaheim Supercross, he came away with the win. Tyson ended up 3rd overall in the 125 Supercross Championship,
and 6th overall on the Outdoor Championship.
1987
Tallon had moved up from the 80cc's to the 125 and 250 intermediate classes. Tallon started to
have great success on big bikes also, he went on to win three titles at
Ponca city and one in the
youth class at Loretta Lynns.
1988-89
Tyson and Tallon were contracted to
race a new stadium series called Ultracross. Over the next two years, Tyson and
Tallon accumulated 14 indoor Ultracross main event wins, Tyson winning 10 on
his own making him the leader in Ultracross Main event wins.
1990
Tyson
decided to take a deal in Europe and Tallon was going to race the 125 AMA Supercross and
Outdoor Nationals in America.
Tyson's year went well, he scored some 2nd and 3rd overall GP
victories to arrive 6th in the world in the 125 GP standings. Tallon also had a good
year with his first Supercross victory in Tampa, Florida. Tallon was able to pull off one 2nd and two 3rd place finishes in the Outdoor Nationals, and
was sitting 3rd in the championship when he signed his Factory Suzuki
contract for the next year.
1991
The Vohland brother were back together again. Tallon on the east Tyson on the west. At the second
round of Supercoss, the east and west shootout mixed event came together at
Houston. Tallon
and Tyson led all but two laps when McGrath slipped by Tyson to take 2nd.
With both Tallon and Tyson on the podium running first and second in their
championships, this was surely a highlight for the Vohland family. Tyson went on that year to score a 2nd place at the first Outdoor National.
Tallon raced very well but like a warrior in battle, the injuries sustained in the season kept him from finishing the series.
1992
A difficult year is faced for the Vohland family, Tallon signed to a European contract and Tyson
stayed on in the States when Grandpa Vohland unexpectedly passed away. Tyson was devastated by the loss of his grandfather and decided that he no longer wanted to race.
Tallon was also struggling while trying to deal with the death of such a crucial person in his life and being alone in Europe thousands of miles away from the rest of the family certainly didn't make it any easier.
The next three years proved to be very difficult as Tallon suffered many setbacks in his career including injuries and lack of consistency.
1994
Tyson came to
Europe to help Tallon at a big race in
Italy called the Fastcross. Tallon got 2nd to Greg Albertyn, and beat other contenders such as McGrath and Emig among many other great racers.
1995
Tyson made a permanent move to Europe to work as Tallon's trainer and manager. With the help of his brother Tyson, the next eight years proved to be very successful. These two obviously work better together. Tallon would win GPs, 125 Supercrosses and a 125 Outdoor National. He also was leading the World Championship point standing in 1995 and 1997 as well as leading the
125 Supercross Championship point standing in 1999.
Tallon had great battles with riders
like Stefan Everts and Ricky Carmichael. Tallon ended up two times 3rd in the World and two times 3rd in the Nation.
2002
Tallon decided to retire at the end of the season to raise his kids and start the next edition of the Vohland racing family. As a new edition to the legacy, Maximus Vohland started riding BMX at age 3 and is now 4 years old and loving to pound out laps with his little Suzuki peewee 50 bike. Look for him a victory circle near you.
